Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a manualized approach to build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. Translated into English: this helps you walk through the world with less chaos. I integrate DBT concepts into twice-weekly individual meetings. The first meeting will be scheduled early in the week and will be primarily educational. You will receive instruction and explanation from me on the topic we are covering. You will be given homework—worksheets, tasks, tracking. The second meeting will occur later in the week and we will go over your homework and process what worked, what didn’t and what to do differently. This service is very structured and you will need supplemental materials: a workbook and, if you have a smartphone, a supplemental app. This approach is ideal for people with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder but has also been very well-studied and shown to help with OCD, addictions, Bipolar Disorder and Anxiety.
